Political strike in the capital region from 1-2 February, and demonstration on 1 February

All contract fields of the Finnish Construction Trade Union in Helsinki, Vantaa and Espoo will go on strike from 1-2 February. Emergency work, HVAC maintenance and road maintenance will not be affected by the strike.

In addition, members of the Finnish Construction Trade Union will be participating in the Industrial Union’s strike from 1-2 February at the following sites:

  • Agnico Eagle Finland, Kittilä mine
  • Boliden Kevitsa Mining, Kevitsa mine
  • Neste Oyj, Naantali refinery
  • Neste Oyj, Porvoo refinery
  • Outokumpu Chrome, Kemi mine
  • Outokumpu Chrome, Tornio plant
  • Outokumpu Steel, Tornio
  • SSAB Europe, Raahe plant
  • Terrafame Oy, Sotkamo mine
  • Yara, Siilinjärvi mine

Why?

The political strike is in opposition to employment cuts by the Orpo cabinet. The government intends to cut social welfare, restrict the right to protest, and weaken working conditions.

Demonstration on 1 February

All members of the Finnish Construction Union can participate in the STOP now! demonstration taking place in Helsinki from 12.00 to 14.00 on Thursday 1 February.

Members of the Finnish Construction Union who participate in the demonstration will be on strike on that day, and will be paid strike pay. Political demonstrations are legal and participation in them is completely permitted. Employers must not target any employees who participate in the strike with negative consequences.

SAK is organising transportation to the STOP now! demonstration from all over Finland. Please sign up for transportation as soon as possible.
