What is the union conference?
The union conference is a two-day conference attended by regular members of Rakennusliitto who have been elected as union conference representatives. Rakennusliitto’s 26th union conference will be held in Helsinki on 14.–15.5.2027.
The union conference is Rakennusliitto’s highest decision-making body. It decides on the future direction of the union and selects the union’s leadership.
The union conference and union conference elections are held every four years.
What are the elections?
The union conference elections elect representatives for the union conference. The elections will see a total of 162 representatives elected; one representative for every 400 members in an area.
Who can run in the elections?
Members of Rakennusliitto can run for election in the union conference elections. You can run for election if you joined Rakennusliitto no later than 13 May 2026 and you have paid your membership fees appropriately.
If you want to run for election
Contact your local union branch, a union service point, or officer, and give your written consent to stand as a candidate. Every member who is eligible to stand will be made a candidate.
You can complete a consent form using the online form (in Finnish), which requires you to identify yourself using a mobile certificate or online banking credentials: Fill out form
You can also fill out a PDF consent form, print or scan it, and submit it to your local union branch or a union service point.
The local union branch (ammattiosasto) will nominate consenting candidates in a membership meeting, such as in the autumn meeting. Nomination began on 21 August and ends on 13 November 2026.
Holding elections and voting
Union conference elections will be held digitally from 22 February – 10 March 2027.
All members who join by 22 November 2026 will be eligible to vote. Each member can vote for candidates in their own area.
Members can vote on their own device, at Rakennusliitto’s service points, and at separately announced locations.
